Getting started with ArtUp Labs

ArtUp Labs makes a 3D model of a product from its photo, adds it to the product's media and adds a theme block that lets shoppers place your products in their room. This guide walks through the whole setup.

1. Install the app

Install ArtUp Labs from the Shopify App Store and approve the access request. The app opens inside your Shopify admin; no separate login or account is needed.

2. Choose a plan

The app shows your plan at the top of its pages. Click Choose a plan to open Shopify's plan page, pick a plan and approve it. Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial with up to 5 generations. Billing goes through Shopify, and you can change the plan later with Change plan.

  • Starter: $29/month, 5 generations included, $2 for each extra generation, up to 30 generations per month.
  • Growth: $79/month, 25 generations included, $2 for each extra generation, up to 100 generations per month.
  • Pro: $199/month, 100 generations included, $2 for each extra generation, up to 300 generations per month.

3. Generate a 3D model

  1. In the app, open Products. The list shows your products and their 3D status.
  2. Open a product that has a photo. A single item on a plain background works best: the product's main photo is the one used.
  3. Click Generate 3D. Generation usually takes about 3 minutes; the page updates on its own.

4. Check the preview and accept it

  1. When the product shows Preview ready, rotate the 3D preview to check it.
  2. Enter the item's real height in Height, cm (from 1 to 500 cm). The model is scaled to this height, so it appears at true size in the room.
  3. Click Accept. Shortly after, the 3D model appears in the product's media (Products → product → Media in your Shopify admin).

Not happy with the result? Regenerate makes a new model for the same product (it counts as a new generation); Reject discards the preview.

5. Add the button to your theme

  1. In your Shopify admin open Online Store → Themes → Customize.
  2. Switch to a product template.
  3. Click Add block, choose Apps → AR Room button and save.

Or use the Add the AR Room block to your theme button at the bottom of the app's Products page: it opens the theme editor with the block already added to the product template, so you only need to click Save.

The block shows View in my room and Add to my room on products that have a 3D model and stays hidden on the others. You can change the button labels and color in the block settings.

6. What your shoppers see

  1. On a product page the shopper clicks Add to my room. The room holds up to 5 products and is kept in the shopper's browser.
  2. View in my room opens the room page (artuplabs.com/room/) with the current product and the ones added before, in 3D.
  3. On an Android phone with Chrome and ARCore the room page offers AR, so the products can be placed in the real room. Support for iPhone and iPad through the ArtUp Labs App Clip is rolling out (pending Apple approval); until then they show the room in 3D without AR. On a desktop the room page shows the room in 3D and a QR code to open it on a phone.
  4. Add all to cart on the room page opens your store's cart with the products from the room.

Troubleshooting

The product shows "No photo"

A 3D model is made from the product's photo. Add a photo to the product in Shopify, then open it in the app again.

"Daily limit reached: up to 10 generations per store per day (UTC). Try again tomorrow."

Each store can run up to 10 generations per day (UTC), whatever the plan. Generate again the next day.

"No active plan. Choose a plan to generate 3D models."

Click Choose a plan and approve a plan on Shopify's plan page (see step 2).

"Your plan's monthly generation limit is reached. Change your plan to generate more, or wait until the 1st (UTC)."

Your plan's maximum for the month is used. Click Change plan to move to a larger plan.

"Trial limit reached — more generations when the trial ends and your plan starts."

The trial includes up to 5 generations; the plan's generations start with the plan.

The button does not appear on the storefront

Check that the product has a 3D model in its media (step 4) and that the AR Room button block is added to the product template and saved (step 5).
